Plantar fasciitis is a sterile inflammation of the plantar fascia, a common foot condition also known as plantar aponeurositis. This condition is typically classified into two types: traumatic plantar fasciitis and non-traumatic plantar fasciitis. Traumatic plantar fasciitis can further be divided into acute and chronic forms.

Plantar fasciitis is usually caused by overuse or damage to the plantar fascia. Common triggers include walking, running, prolonged standing, and wearing inappropriate footwear.
